The apples-to-apples quote checklist
Seven things that must match before you can say one quote is cheaper.
Two quotes are only comparable when they cover the same things. Before you compare prices, line up these items.
Liability limits
Bodily injury per person, per accident, and property damage.
2Deductibles
Collision and comprehensive, separately.
3Uninsured motorist
Bodily injury and, where offered, property damage.
4Medical coverage
PIP or medical payments, where applicable.
5Drivers listed
Every licensed household member the insurer requires.
6Term length
Six-month vs twelve-month prices are not comparable directly.
7Add-ons
Rental reimbursement, roadside, gap, glass.
✓Then compare
Price, payment fees, and the insurer's service reputation.
Watch the term
A $700 six-month premium is $1,400 a year. Convert everything to the same term before comparing.
Check the details
Look at whether the quote assumes discounts you have not confirmed, such as paperless billing or a telematics program. If a discount requires action, factor that in.
